The kelp seaweed is another of the great gifts that come from the sea since many benefits are obtained from them due to their properties.

What is Kelp seaweed ?

Kelp algae, Macrocystis pyrifera, are brown seaweed of the genus Laminaria. They are very long and grow in shallow areas forming forests, so they receive a lot of light.

Kelp algae are very abundant on the Patagonian coast.

Properties of kelp seaweed

There are many properties that these algae have and, therefore, many of the benefits that we can obtain if we incorporate them regularly into our diet.

  • One of the properties of kelp algae is that it is an excellent source of minerals and trace elements.
  • Great calcium intake.
  • Ideal for fighting goitre because they are very rich in iodine.
  • Strengthening nails and hair is another of the properties of kelp algae.
  • They help control weight because it has a low fat content and gives us very few calories, also slows the absorption of fats in the intestine.
  • They regulate the functioning of the thyroid gland.
  • Protecting against the effects of radiation and heavy metals is another of the interesting properties of kelp algae.
  • They reduce flatulence.
  • They clean and purify the arteries.
  • They help fight stress and fatigue.
  • Ideal for controlling cholesterol.
  • Being rich in fiber, they fight constipation.
  • They are useful, using them as plasters, for the treatment of acne and blackheads.

Kelp seaweed nutritional information

As we have said, kelp algae are very rich in minerals and trace elements.

Among the minerals they contain are: iodine, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, zinc, manganese and have a low sodium content.

In addition to these minerals, kelp algae contain:

  • Fiber: 8%
  • Protein: 5-10%
  • Ethereal Extract: 2-4%
  • Fucoidin: 10%
  • Exto Free of N .: 45-60%
  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): 500-2000 mg / Kg
  • Carotene (Provitamin A): 30-60 mg / Kg
  • Biotin (Vitamin H): 0.1-0.4 mg / Kg
  • Folic acid: 0.1-0.5 mg / kg
  • Folin acid: 0.1-0.5 mg / Kg
  • Niacin (Vitamin B1): 10-30 mg / Kg
  • Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 5-10 mg / Kg

  • Tocopherols (Vitamin E): 150-300 mg / Kg

How to use kelp seaweed

We can use them instead of salt and sprinkle them on food.

Externally in the form of a plaster: we will mix a part of kelp seaweed with three slices of clay and add water until we get a consistent paste to which we will add a few drops of olive oil. We will apply to the areas that we want to purify for about twenty or thirty minutes.

If we want to perform a cleansing cure, we will put a tablespoon of kelp seaweed powder per cup of boiled water. We will let it sit overnight, and the next day we will drink three cups throughout the day.

We can also take them in the form of drops and capsules.

Avoid if we have hyperthyroid problems.
